3 Days, 3 Hours, Learning for Life.

Description

Triangle Bikeworks will host its annual Lunch & Learn series to educate the youth and community on the theme of the 2023 summer tour: The Civil Rights Era

June 22, 2021 - June 24, 2021 from 12:30 PM - 1:30 PM.

The theme of this year's free event focuses on Oral History: The First Kind of History. Even the movie Titanic, which so many of us have seen, is largely captured through an oral history and practically begins as such.

Oral history helps round out the stories of the past.

Oral history provides a fuller, more accurate picture of the human experience and augments the information provided by public records, statistical data, photographs, maps, letters, diaries, and other historical materials.

If you just think of the breadth and width of history that today’s students have to learn you can understand how necessary details can often times be left out!

Traditional history courses in high school and college usually touch only on the major events of the past, covering the fundamentals of who, what, when, where, why, and so what. Oral history brings depth to our understanding of the past by carrying us into experience at an individual level.

Every summer, youth accepted into the Summer Experiences program ride a bike tour of  700+ miles to study Untold History, conservation, and environmental justice along the way. This online event is considered a virtual bike tour. We're excited to provide you this great opportunity to see what it's like to be a Triangle Bikeworks cyclist while on the road; without the long days in the saddle! We hope you'll be inspired to discover more Untold History as we demonstrate how Triangle Bikeworks achieves this unique experiential way of learning.

This year’s virtual tour will be three days of 1-hour presentations and discussions based around the oral history of the Civil Rights era and events specific to North Carolina.

Cost: FREE.99!
